ShContemporary 09

This is one of the reasons why I love Shanghai. When creativity is dead (in China), or the lack of inspiration is mentally constipating...something out-of-the-box pops up, and takes you on for a surprise. If I didn't have other plans (a.k.a. daughter duties) for the late afternoon, I'd be happily wandering another round at the ShContemporary09, until my senses have had its complete indulgence. Highly amazed, wow-ed, and impressed by the works of local and international artists worldwide...today, was definitely a feast for my senses. I'll let the pictures do the talking now. Art talks, but do you hear it?

Red Carpet - painted with sand designs
picture of a 3D-lookalike video
(And the video created the universal theme..."What IS contemporary art?")
Clock/color of silence, by Aiko Miyanaga
Also one of Aiko Miyanaga's works, it's actually made from Naphthalene (same ingredient for moth balls)
A series of "a little China today"...
The joy of dancing...anywhere, anytime
(Head to Zhong Shan Park...you'll see the 真人版s)
Staring Looking with curiousity
拜拜
Construction workers/afternoon naps...or both?
Behind every finger print, lies a different expresssion.
Telephone, in ceramic
Computer, in ceramic

Chinese Opera, or little swirly fishes?
I see a lotta fishies too...
Another Chinese Opera, oil on canvas
Anyone know's what this painting technique is called?
(this is gonna bug me for a week...)
The devil in all situations...
All that messiness in the head...
So many colors, so much interpretations...
Interpretation 1.
Interpretation 2.
Interpretation 3.
Interpretation 4.
Interpretation 5.
Interpretation 6.

Twins of 9 faces
A boat full of shells...

Smokes, wine, and a girl - oil on canvas
All the smiles with a mere frown
Beijing, hustle and bustle
Mini version of Hongqiao flower statue?
Oh Dear God, you're frowning...
Carla Bedini's collection, the Italian artist specializes in painting on wood + gauze, creating intricate depth and mood for each painting
¥ 72,000 (i kid you not)
...you can vaguely see the layers of gauze...one of the few pieces that caught both sweetJ & my attention.
Photo center, painted around
Rooftops...

A lot of painted roosters on a mannequin..

Last but not least, one of my favorite series...you see a shirt? or you see a dog?
The never ending battle...hoodies, or sweats? Pepsi or Cola?
That's a lot of rocks/coal/dirt...
...but not until you see what it makes up altogether.

And  a lot of silver...spoons.
